SADD
Who We Are
SADD Juneau is a peer-to-peer education, prevention, and activism organization. We believe that young people learn best from one another, hence the peer education model we employ to remove the stigma from safe and healthy decision making. In addition, SADD Juneau strongly endorses the view that teenagers can enjoy vibrant, fun, and interesting social lives while forgoing the use of drugs and alcohol. Finally, we do not subscribe to the belief that teenagers can break the law responsibly, and therefore do not support or condone drug and alcohol use among teenagers under any condition.
What We Do
In keeping with our mission and philosophy, SADD Juneau has played a role in numerous events and advertising campaigns that that offer and emphasize safe and sober alternatives for teenagers. Our recent initiatives include Juneau’s first safe and sober Haunted House aimed at teenage and young adult population; sponsorship of local participation in the national Tie One On for Safety campaign, the continuing aim of which is to raise awareness about drinking and driving during the holidays; and the organization and execution of safe and sober graduation events. We also perform outreach, appearing at community health fairs and town hall meetings. Through these efforts SADD Juneau continually strives to be positive force in the community, helping those of all ages make healthy choices about alcohol and drug use.
